Are You Happy?

Yes.. this is one question tt has been in my thots for quite sum time le...

Yeap... ask urself.. "Am I happy? Am I truly happy??"

Are you?

well.. you may say "i haf a car, a family, a job" yes.. on the surface, yes u r happy cos u haf everything u haf in this society...

Now, wat is happy to you? how do you define happy? In the dictionary it says "Enjoying, showing, or marked by pleasure, satisfaction, or joy." Yes, having a family, a job and all gives us the security we need, be it mental or physical.... and yeap.. u derive pleasure, satisfaction and joy frm these...

but you hear people saying "We humans are greedy" so that means that we are always not satisfied? and thus we will feel not as happy as we are supposed to be? contradicting right?

So wat is it tt u really want? are those things tt u truly wan? or is it defined by the society?

Well, being happy to me is, doing things that u really like, no constraints, no second thots. well i think in this society, so distorted and vile, it is very hard for sumone to be truly happy...

well... i would like to see wat u guys think!!! so feel free, if theres any, comment and add on a few views yourself!! =)

'happy' is a subjective term. like u say, it means 'doing the things u like'.

again, this is a very broad category and must not be mixed up with other values or important aspects in life.

Certainly, in life there is more then just 'being happy'. And in 'happy', one look at the problem of short run and long run.

I quote an example, in social psychology, there is a concept of 'tradgy of the common'.

Simple story, a piece of land with alot of green grass, each owner of their cattles only grazed it with 'constraint'. And by doing so, all will enjoy the free grass.

However, due to exploitation and wanting to reap the highest gain, ppl forgo constraint and secretly grazed the land more, buy more cattles. eventually the whole land became a 'botak land'.

Well, initially those who 'reaped the extras' will feel 'happy'. But, will it last? and eventually, all will become 'unahappy' again.

Some ppl, find happiness in doing altruism act. Even if its at their own cost.

Some ppl find happiness, through food, movies, sleep, clubbing etc.
Imo, happy or not is a very small issue, in which our great brains can adjust and change constantly. There will still be constraint, responsiblity invloved. At the end of the day, its what values one cherish and how 'satisfied' a person can be.

Example, a person 'happy' with his job, means, he is satisfied with his job. But again, a person satisfied with his job does NOT mean he perform well in his job.

Happy or not is highly subjective. Depending on each values, culture and beliefs.Imo, we human beings are collective group creatures, we should sought happiness thru common good and not just on 'individual happiness' alone only.
